The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a woman at the Rockingham County Detention Facility. At around noon on Saturday the woman developed an apparent medical emergency. Detention Officers and Medical Staff, along with Rockingham County Emergency Services, responded quickly to provide emergency medical assistance to the inmate.
The woman died while medical assistance was being given from the apparent medical emergency she was having. Neither suicide, nor foul play, is suspected in the inmate’s death. The inmate had been housed in a cell by herself.
At the request of Sheriff Sam Page, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been contacted and will be performing a follow up investigation, per standard procedure. The name of the individual who passed away is not being released at this time because the next of kin is still being notified.
