It’s time to acknowledge a new WBTM/Danville Dental Associates Citizen of the Month…she is Karen Harris, Executive Director of God’s Storehouse. The author of her letter of nomination asked to remain anonymous.

Karen has dedicated her life to helping others. She is not only in charge of everything and everyone at God’s Storehouse, but she’s also willing to jump in and help whenever needed. It might be filling boxes with food, helping give out the boxes, or even comforting a client who needs more than food. Although God’s Storehouse regularly provides food for over 100 families a day, four days a week, Karen recalls one client who had a special need. The woman had walked from North Danville to God’s Storehouse on Memorial Drive to get food for her family of 10. She was given two large boxes of food, but had no way to carry them home. When Karen found out, she immediately found a volunteer who was willing to drive the woman and her food to her home. Recently, Karen was contacted by Kentuck Baptist Church about providing food for Pittsylvania County residents who needed help, but had no transportation to Danville. Karen set up a satellite station at the church, where she and volunteers from God’s Storehouse provide boxes of food every week for county residents in need.

Karen is also a very active member of First Baptist Church. She has been a member of the Board of Deacons there for many years, serving as its chairman for two terms. Karen has also paired her extensive organizational skills with her love for cooking by chairing the church’s Hospitality Committee. From a church reception to the church’s annual Fall Festival, you can always find Karen helping to organize and staff it.

Karen has also served on several boards, including The Board of Grace & Main Fellowship, which serves the homeless and poor in our community. In summary, for Karen Harris, helping others is not just her job, it’s her way of life!
