A fire occurred early Tuesday morning at a Pittsylvania County landfill. According to Pittsylvania County Public Safety, the fire happened at the Piedmont Waste Facility located on Clarks Mill Road in Ringgold.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time. Dispatchers received the call for the fire at 4:29 am on Tuesday after workers at the landfill discovered the fire as they arrived at work. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The Ringgold, Blairs, Kentuck, Mt. Hermon, Laurel Grove, and Dry Fork Volunteer Fire Departments all responded to the fire. The size of the fire was estimated to be 1/2 an acre.
