The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors last night voted 3-1-2 to appoint Nancy K. Eanes to represent the Dan River District as an interim supervisor at its June 20 business meeting.

Tunstall District Supervisor Vic Ingram cast the lone dissenting vote and Banister District Supervisor Robert Taylor and Chairman Darrell Dalton abstained from voting.

Eanes replaces former Dan River District Supervisor Tim Chesher who resigned June 1 for medical reasons. Eanes will serve until Dec. 31, 2023.

Eanes retired in 2014 from the Institute of Advanced Learning and Research after serving for 10 years in finance, facilities, procurement and human resources. Prior to her service at the IALR, Eanes worked in several capacities for Danville Regional Medical Center, now known as Sovah Health, for 19 years. She currently serves as the chairperson for the Department of Social Services Board, serves on the County Board of Assessors and works as a cafeteria assistant and bus driver for Pittsylvania County Schools.

She is a graduate of Dan River High School and attended Danville Community College for business management.

“I welcome the appointment, and my number one priority is listening to the citizens. I will be there for the citizens, for all citizens,” said Eanes.

The Board also petitioned the Pittsylvania County Circuit Court for a special election to be held during the Nov. 7 general election. The winner of that race will complete the remaining two years of Chesher’s term, which runs through
Dec. 31, 2025, when the seat will be up for its regularly scheduled election for a new four-year term.

Chesher took his seat on the Board in January 2022. The Board had asked interested residents to send in a resume and cover letter to be considered for the interim appointment and two applicants responded.
