Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop just east of the Blue Ridge during the mid-afternoon hours then exit the Virginia Southside and north North Carolina Piedmont between 7 and 9 pm tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg.

These storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. The NWS is urging people to have multiple ways of receiving weather warnings today and know where you will shelter if warnings are issued.
