A Pittsylvania County man is being held on several charges after holding his mother hostage with a knife on Thursday afternoon. Just before 3 pm on Thursday the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a woman being held hostage on Rockford School Road in Hurt.

When deputies responded they found 61-year-old Anthony Simpson holding his mother at knife point. He allegedly refused to let her out and barricaded the doors.

At around 5:30 pm officers breached the home and disarmed Simpson with Tasers. 

He is facing charges of: 

• trespassing, Injuring, etc., any property, monument, etc. $1,000.00 or more (felony).
• Assault and battery against a family or household member.
• Abduction and kidnapping.
• Assault and Battery on Law Enforcement.
