A powerful thunderstorm that moved through the area on Sunday afternoon left over 9,000 Danville utilities customers without power at one point. The storm knocked down trees and powerlines. Trees that were knocked over in the Windsor Heights neighborhood crashed into homes and a dozen homes were damaged.

The storm also knocked down multiple trees near the Danville Police Department and blocked the Memorial Drive entrance.

Danville Utilities says it could be days before power is able to be restored in those areas because of the extent of the damage. About 1,500 people in Danville were still without power as of Sunday night.

On Monday, Danville Utilities crews will be joined by crews from Greenville, N.C., Statesville, N.C., Wake Forest, N.C., Rock Hill, S.C., and Union, S.C.
