Smith Mountain Lake Fire Marine Fire Rescue is asking boaters to stay away from part of the lake after a barge overturned on Monday. The rescue is asking boaters to stay away from the area between B-34 and B-40 today because of the amount of debris from the barge.

The debris includes pilings up to 35 inches long and could cause significant damage to boats.
