Earlier this week, the Henry County Board of Supervisors and Martinsville City Council voted to dissolve the Southern Virginia Recreation Facilities Authority. With that vote, Henry County Parks and Recreation will now oversee the operations of the Smith River Sports Complex.
This transition allows the complex to be able to continue operating as normal with the current staff. The vote was made after it was determined that the model of funding for the complex was not sustainable.
Allowing parks and recreation to oversee the operation will also allow the complex to receive additional funding and staffing.
