A homecoming event for four families displaced from devastating floods earlier this year is set to take place on Sunday, August 13, in Pond, California. After redeploying to the affected area on July 7, God’s Pit Crew staff and volunteers – along with local volunteers and church ministries – will soon be welcoming the displaced families back into their homes following weeks of hard work and refurbishments.
A team of God’s Pit Crew staff and volunteers, as well as local volunteers in the Pond area, recently began work on rebuilding and remodeling homes that were severely impacted by flood waters that tore through the area earlier this spring. Following the initial flooding, God’s Pit Crew’s Immediate Response team helped flood victims by mucking out and drying homes and training local volunteers on how to effectively respond to flooding disasters.
In order to get the homes ready for the families to safely move back in, God’s Pit Crew staff and volunteers worked to install all new insulation, sheetrock, doors, cabinets, flooring, bathroom fixtures, electrical fixtures, and more. The homes also received fresh paint and new appliances to finish out the remodel process.
“It has truly been a blessing to return to California and continue caring for these families,” said Randy Johnson, president of God’s Pit Crew. “The team of volunteers that have worked so hard on these homes is so excited to welcome each of these families back – and we owe a huge thanks to all the volunteers and donors that helped make this a possibility.”
Along with helping remodel these four homes, God’s Pit Crew has built two other homes so far this year with two more builds scheduled for September in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. The organization has also responded to 10 disaster situations since the start of the year and delivered over 50 tractor-trailer loads of relief supplies.
