The Salvation Army of Danville is joining forces with the United Way of Danville and Pittsylvania County for a community playground build. The event will take place on Sept. 9 at the Salvation Army at 123 Henry Street.

Lieutenant Hodges spoke to River City TV yesterday about the community playground build.

“We believe that all kids should have a space to play and to develop social skills and to be creative and to be active. With the growth spike of obesity in our children nowadays we felt that this playground would be a great way that they can play and get healthy while doing it,” said Hodges.

The Salvation Army say the  new playground will be inclusive and will include swing sets,  climbers, sensory tables, and a place for children with physical disabilities.

The Salvation Army is looking for 75 volunteers to help build the playground. Contact the salvation army at 792-3963.
