Southside Elementary School in Blairs was placed under a “soft lockdown” this afternoon due a concern in the community. Pittsylvania County Schools worked with the Sheriff’s Office during the soft lockdown and the school was never in danger.

A soft lockdown is now referred to as secured by the schools. Secured means that students are kept inside of the school and the outside doors are all locked.

Students were dismissed on time, however caution was used during dismissal. The event that caused the lockdown has not been disclosed at this time.
