Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash, which resulted in a fatality.  The crash occurred Friday, at 11:40 pm on Route 685, two tenths of a mile north of Route 690 in Pittsylvania County.

A 2007 Chevrolet Impala was traveling north on Route 685, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway striking a utility pole and a tree.

The driver was identified as Larry Ray Smith, 68, of Chatham. Smith was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
