Danville Vice Mayor Dr. Gary Miller has announced his candidacy for the 9th senate district as a Democrat.  Miller announced his candidacy in a Facebook post on Monday night. 

Miller said “ I have been humbled by the outpouring of people asking for me to run for the democratic nomination.”

He went on to say that his candidacy represents a commitment to a healthier, safer, and more prosperous Senate District 9.

Trudy Barry has also announced her plans to seek the democratic nomination.

A firehouse primary will take place in polling locations across the district tonight for the democratic nominees.  One will take place at Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church in Chatham from 6-7 pm.

Miller’s fellow council member Lee Vogler is one of six that will be vying for the republican nomination tonight during a mass meeting.
