Danville is under a winter weather advisory. In its latest forecast, the National Weather Service’s Blacksburg office expects freezing rain and sleet to begin in the city between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Saturday. Road conditions will become slippery. The freezing rain and sleet will continue until 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., at which time there will be a changeover to rain. Road conditions will improve as temperatures rise. The high temperature for the day will be 38 degrees.

The rain will move out of the area between 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday night. Temperatures Saturday night and Sunday morning will fall below freezing, so any moisture on road surfaces will refreeze.

Public Works crews are spreading brine today. Crews will be on duty tonight and Saturday morning, monitoring street conditions and spreading sand and salt in areas as needed.

Danville Utilities crews will be on standby this weekend. Customers are encouraged to review the Danville Utilities’ storm preparation guide: https://danvilleutilities.com/attachments/2021_Danville-Utilities_Storm-Preparation-Guide_INT.pdf
