Two special elections were held in the southside today. In the 9th Senate District Republican Tammy Mulchi beat former South Boston Mayor Tina Younger. Mulchi has received over 63% of the vote and will replace senator Frank Ruff who retired in December.

In the 48th House District Republican Eric Phillips beat Melody Cartwright. Phillips won with over 70 percent of the votes and will replace Delegate Les Adams, who retired in December.

The 9th Senate district includes Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Halifax County among others.

The 48th house district includes Martinsville as well as part of Pittsylvania County and Henry County.
