Virginia State Police has identified remains found in Lake Gaston on Sunday as a man that went missing on Jan. 9.

William “Butch” Bateman, 61, was last seen in the area near Tanglewood Country Club at Lake Gaston while driving a golf cart.

The remains were found in the vicinity of the Tanglewood recreation area and boat ramp, not far from where Bateman was last seen.

When he went missing, Bateman was wearing blue jeans, a camouflage coat, and tan “Hey Dude” shoes.
