Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital released exterior renderings and additional details for their new modern acute care hospital. The new hospital is designed to be sustainable in the current environment and beyond, and flexible enough to adapt to changes in the delivery of care based on the needs of the community. Design and development details are expected to be completed in spring 2024. Construction will begin in the fall of 2024 with completion targeted for the summer of 2026.
“The new Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital will bring the evolution of healthcare to the communities we serve, with interdisciplinary care and a healing environment to deliver high-quality patient care,” said Brian Zwoyer, president of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. “New and advanced design elements will be a part of the modern hospital, including green spaces, natural light, private rooms, efficient healthcare layouts, infection control design, patient safety features, locally sourced materials and much more. We are excited to announce this healing-focused design, which keeps the well-being of our patients as the primary focus.”
The new hospital will have inpatient medical/surgical/intensive care/observation beds, a cardiac catheterization suite, emergency department, operating rooms, procedural room, helipad, imaging services, laboratory, pathology, pharmacy, rehabilitation, respiratory therapy and several other support departments. Services offered within the clinics and/or hospital will include: Anesthesiology, Behavioral Health, Cardiology, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Critical Care, Dentistry, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Family Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynecology, Hematology/ Oncology, Home Health, Hospice, Infectious Disease, Infusion Services, Internal Medicine, Laboratory, Nephrology, Occupational Medicine, Orthopedics, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Pulmonology, Radiology, Rehabilitation, Respiratory Therapy, and Sleep Study.
According to Zwoyer, “The new hospital is being built with the possibility for future expansions in mind so that Sentara will be able to accommodate the needs of the community as it evolves for years to come. Importantly, utilizing our current campus will enable us to create an advanced healthcare campus right here in the community we are honored to serve.”
The new Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital will be constructed where the Fuller Roberts Clinic is located, including the green space behind the current hospital. To support the development of an advanced healthcare campus, renovation of the physicians pavilion located on the current hospital campus is being planned to provide a contemporary updating and outfitting to the current space to better serve the community.
Continued updates and details will be shared as they are developed and finalized.
