On Wednesday, the Danville Otterbots and Knuckleball Entertainment announced a new summer collegiate baseball team, the Danville Dairy Daddies. The new team will play in the Old North State League with the first home game at Dan Daniel Park on May 24.
The name of the new team pays homage to the agricultural sector in the area. The name of the mascot for the Dairy Daddies is McCreamy. Otterbots General Manager Austin Scher noted that the organization plans to partner with nearly a dozen FFA chapters across the region.
Scher stated during the announcement press conference that the new teams furthers what the Otterbots has strived to do since coming to Danville.
“Our goal from day one was to come in and be a true community champion and we viewed that through two lenses, we wanted to be active here, continually activate the ballpark, provide opportunities for affordable, fun, memory making at the ballpark year around and then we also wanted to use our unique mouthpiece as a baseball team to spread the word of Danville,” said Scher.
The Dairy Daddies will play 13 home games this season while the Otterbots are on the road and will be the first team in Virginia in the Old North State League.
