The Martinsville Police Department is warning residents that fake pills are on the rise across the state. According to onepillcankillva.org, drug traffickers are mass-producing and marketing fake pills as legitimate prescription medication.
These fake pills are widely accessible and look identical to common medications. Laboratory testing indicates that seven out of every ten counterfeit pills seized by the DEA contain a lethal dose of fentanyl.
In conjunction with Operation FREE Virginia, the Martinsville Police Department is warning residents that “One Pill Can Kill.” If you think a pill might be fake, don’t take that chance and throw it out.
Signs that a pill may be fake include:
- It came in odd packaging or quantities
- It came from the internet
- It came from someone other than a medical professional
