Eight people were displaced by a fire in Danville on Thursday afternoon. At 3:14 pm, the Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 155 Marshall Terrace. During Engine three’s arrival, there was light smoke coming from the rear of the building.
The house is a duplex with the fire originating from the center-rear of the house. The fire extended into the void spaces between the walls and floors, it extended into the bathrooms on the second floor and burned through to the exterior rear wall.
It affected both apartments in the duplex, displacing the families of each apartment. There were a total of five children and three adults displaced by the fire.
Fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control with three fire hose lines. There were twenty firefighters on scene, four engine companies, one aerial, one safety vehicle, and one command vehicle. Fire department personnel were able to rescue a pet hamster from the upstairs bedroom and it is now safely in the care of it’s family. The fire is still under investigation.
The Danville Fire Department was aided by the Danville Life Saving Crew, who provided medical care for firefighters. The Danville Police Department provided a police officer for traffic control and scene security. The Danville Utility department ensured the utilities were controlled to the residence.
