On Thursday, the Danville School Board approved the hiring of two new principals. The board unanimously approved Johnny Cressell as the new principal at GW High School.

Cressell will officially take over as principal at GW on July 1. Cressell began his teaching career with Danville Public Schools as a PE teacher at W.W. Moore in 2017. In addition, he has taught and served as department chair for high school electives at the I.W. Taylor Virtual Academy. He served as assistant principal of Galileo Magnet High School prior to his current role of assistant principal of George Washington High School, where he is the administrator over the Academy 9 program.

The school board also approved Michaela Ragsdale as the new Principal at Gibson Elementary School.

Ragsdale began her teaching career in Halifax and has taught at G.L.H. Johnson Elementary and Westwood Middle, where she served as English department chair, at Danville Public Schools. She is currently serving as assistant principal at Park Avenue Elementary School.
