On Monday, the Danville Fire Department (DFD) responded to Blue Ridge Fiberboard (250 Celotex Drive) for the report of a second outside fire in as many days. Upon arrival, units discovered a single stack of fiberboard burning with others in close proximity.

The burning product was remnants of a fire that occurred on Sunday afternoon in a different location on the property. Blue Ridge Fiberboard employees were attempting to extinguish the blaze with facility hose lines, but couldn’t quite reach the seat of the fire.

Engines Three (Industrial Ave.) and One (Lynn St.) deployed one hose line and achieved a quick knockdown on the fire. Plant personnel moved product with forklifts to assist in uncovering smoldering remains.

The DFD responded with three pumpers, one ladder truck, one water tender, a battalion chief, and a safety officer. Twenty personnel operated for approximately one hour. Upon extinguishment, the scene was released back to plant personnel, who were to monitor the area overnight.
